John T. Tauzell, age 90 of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2019.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Monday, April 29, 2019 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park with visitation starting at 9:30 until the time of service at church. Interment in the church cemetery.
John was born September 21, 1928 in Ely, Minnesota to Ivan and Mary (Pechek) Tauzell. He graduated from Ely High School in 1946 and entered active duty in the US Army and served in Japan as a paratrooper. He continued his education at the Vermillion Junior College for a few years before returning to serve in the US Army for a few more years. John met the love of his life, Peggy Tauzell in 1952 and they were married on February 6, 1954 in Marble, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1955 with a degree in Economics and went on to be employed by the State of Minnesota as an economist from 1957 until his retirement in 1994.
He taught himself how to sail and loved his trips to Lake City where they explored most of Lake Pepin. John and Peggy had been residents of Cottage Grove since 1959 and loved traveling to a variety of places throughout the world. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Yacht Club in Lake Pepin, and also served as a eucharistic minister at St. Thomas Aquinas.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years Peggy; children Cynthia Hempy, Michelle (Greg) Pederson, John (Barbara); Annette (Perry) Linn; grandchildren Tanya, Jenny, Shawn, Sarah, Anna, Justin, Andrew, Christopher, Jonathan, Phylicia and Josh; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings Rosemary, Joanne and Anthony. Preceded in death is parents, Ivan and Mary.
