Kaaren Hendrickson, age 76 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
Funeral 11 am, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church, 6875 Jamaica Ave. S, Cottage Grove. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Friday, April 27, 2018 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 -80th Street S. Cottage Grove and one hour prior to service at church. Interment Cottage Grove Cemetery.
Kaaren Faye Hendrickson was born March 6, 1942 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Hilton and Betty (Rumm) Bestland. She grew up in White Bear Lake and graduated from high school in 1960. She met Floyd Hendrickson and they were united in marriage on January 7, 1962. They lived in South St. Paul and St. Paul Park for a few years before settling in Cottage Grove in 1965. Kaaren worked at Applebaum’s Grocery Store for several years and before taking a position as an assistant for the Cottage Grove Public Works Department where she worked for 24 years until she retired in 2002. In the 1990’s Kaaren went back to school to earn her associate’s degree in accounting from Vo-Tech 916.
She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will always remember having lunch with them and taking them shopping. She also loved music and when she was 13, she learned how to play organ and for the past 60 years played organ and performed at a variety of services and weddings in the area.
She is survived by her husband Floyd; sons Curt (Shirley), Larry (Juanita) and Jerry; grandchildren Vanessa (Thomas) Ritenour, Jade (John) Howlett, Amber Hendrickson, Jamie Madsen, James Madsen; great-grandchildren Ulma Howlett II, Sebastian Ritenour, Sullivan Ritenour; brothers Gerald (Rochelle) Bestland, Dennis (Joan) Bestland, Mick (Sher) Bestland as well as nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by beloved sister Judy Cherry.
