Dwane Dimick

Dwane Dimick, age 92 of Cottage Grove, passed away December 4, 2018 at Norris Square Assisted Living.

Memorial service will be 11 am, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior.  Private interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Dwane Eugene Dimick was born in Academy, South Dakota on October 5, 1926 to Harry and Constance (Moe) Dimick.  He graduated from Platte High School.  Dwane was drafted into the US Army on July 21, 1945.  He was stationed in Tokyo for most of his tour of duty until he was discharged and went on to complete his bachelor’s degree in history at South Dakota State College in 1952.  He taught in a country school for a short time before moving to the Twin Cities where he worked for Minneapolis Moline.  Dwane was introduced to Marion Whitehead, who was also from South Dakota.  They were later married December 28, 1954, in Brookings, South Dakota.  They lived in Minneapolis and St. Paul for a short time before settling in Cottage Grove in 1959.  He was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and could fix just about anything.  He worked for the Department of Agriculture in the accounting department as well as the Postal Data Center until he retired in 1986.  He enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s activities and made frequent trips to Waseca to watch his grandsons’ baseball games, his granddaughter’s athletic activities and all of their marching band events.

He is survived by his daughters Sheryl (Kenneth) Wilder and Diane (Al) Engler; grandchildren Jesse (Sarah) Wilder, Kelly (Brandon) Sommers, Thomas Wilder, Daniel (Leigh) Wilder, Sarah (Charlie) Shipman, William Engler; great-grandchildren Hannah, Owen, Cole, Carter, Ivy, and Liam and sister Margery Beebe.  He is preceded in death by his wife Marion; parents Harry and Constance; siblings Marilyn DeVries, Joyce Paauw, Janice Bowers, half-siblings Norman Saukerson and Orlene Saukerson.
