John Hanson

John M. Hanson, age 54 of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2019 at Regions Hospital.

Funeral 11 am, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation starting at 9 am until the time of service.  Interment will be at the Cottage Grove Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

John Matthew Hanson was born November 3, 1964 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Howard and Carol (Thompson) Hanson.  He grew up in St. Paul Park and graduated from Park High School in 1983.  He started at Honeywell as a systems installer in 1988 and was currently serving as a lead systems expert.  John was a competitive powerlifter, an advanced scuba diver, an avid gun enthusiast who loved to travel extensively.  He enjoyed being outdoors whether it was going on hikes with his dogs or occasional fishing trips.

John is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Carol.  He is survived by sons Tom (Kim) Hanson; Chris (Molly) Hanson; faithful companion Simba; grandchildren Hailey, Devin and Cody; siblings Mike (Sue), Pam (Dave) Edwards, Karen (Joe) Roberts, Lisa (Tom) Schaeffer, Jim and Ben as well as several nieces and nephews.
