Margreth A. Welch, age 92, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Margreth was born into a large family on December 12, 1928 to George and Mary (Risch) Heinbuch in Woodbury, Minnesota. Her first job, which she really enjoyed was being a nanny. She met her soulmate and dance partner while dancing downtown in St. Paul. They were united in marriage on May 19, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woodbury. They started out living on St. Paul’s Eastside and moved to Cottage Grove in the early 1960’s. Margreth worked as a nutrition specialist at Park High School in Cottage Grove. Margreth enjoyed cake decorating, gardening, crocheting, sewing, quilting, traveling, and fishing. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and person who was loved by all who met her.

Preceded in death by husband, Donald; son, Michael; parents; George and Mary Heinbuch; and eight siblings. Survived by children, Christine (Michael) Leitner, Sandra Salmela, Deborah (Dale) Schmitz, Jeffrey (Sue), Donald (Michelle); daughter-in-law, Linda; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; siblings, Herman (Delores) Heinbuch and Gertrude Steinbruckner; sister-in-law, Alice Heinbuch; and many other family and friends.

Public visitation 12 PM with private family funeral beginning at 1 PM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 1000 Portland Ave., St. Paul Park, Minnesota, 55071. Interment will follow at Cottage Grove Cemetery. Face masks are required.

Due to COVID-19 limitations and restrictions Margreth’s service will be livestream and recorded for those who aren’t present. To watch the livestream go to the bottom of this page and it will begin at 1 PM, otherwise, if you wish to watch it later it will become available after 7 PM in the recorded format also on the bottom of this page. Please feel free to sign the online guestbook so the family knows you were able to join them for her service.

While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to accommodate gatherings while abiding to a 50% capacity at the facility. The use of face masks by attendees is required at indoor events, and we will continue taking the necessary steps to keep your families safe.
