Scott Elliott

October 2, 1953 — May 15, 2021

Scott Elliott, age 67 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 15, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Scott Lee Elliott was born October 2, 1953 in Stillwater, Minnesota to Lee and Adeline (Waldow) Elliott.  He grew up in Stillwater where he graduated from Stillwater High School in 1971.  He continued his education at Winona State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1975.  He further received his Master’s Degree in Education in 1985, a Master’s Degree in Counselling in 1995, both from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as well as his Education Specialist Degree in Administration from Mankato State in 2012.

After finishing his Bachelor’s Degree, his life forever changed when he took a position at St. Joseph’s Home for Children as a childcare worker.  It was there that he found his passion in taking care of underprivileged children and also met the love of his life, Karen Pearson.  They were married on April 29, 1989 and made their home in Cottage Grove.

He taught elementary school in the St. Paul School District from 1981 to 2011 with his primary focus on 4th graders.  Scott dedicated his life to helping kids in need and through the years cared for over 100 foster children from 1978 to 2020.

He enjoyed spending time in his yard tending to his gardens, going out to eat, sudoku puzzles, spending time with his family and friends, keeping up to date with current events and culture.

He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, love of adventure, his spunk, his unwavering love and deep faith in God.

He is survived by his loving wife Karen; mother Adeline Dornfeld; children Brett Dudeck, Rebecca Elliott and Caitlin (Matthew) Bolen, Matthew (Shawn Hannah) Elliott, Damien and Jeffrey Elliott; grandchildren Scott and Marin Dudeck; siblings Stanley Elliott, Nancy (Bill) Baker, Billy Joe Elliott, Joyce (Terry) Wilson; aunt Ruby Kuhl as well as several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father Lee Elliott and uncle Carl Kuhl.

Funeral service will be 11 am, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Christ The Lord Lutheran Church, 9998 90th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Stillwater.  Masks will be recommended and left the attender's personal discretion.
